Swarashree!




     The Leadership Development Cell (LDC) in association with the Student Council of St. Joseph’s College of Commerce on 13th August, 2016, hosted ‘SWARASHREE- Singing Star of Bangalore’ auditions, organized by ‘Maharashtra Mandal’, Bangalore. Music, according to Plato the Greek philosopher is a fine art meant for the realization of the soul. Keeping with this spirit ‘Maharashtra Mandal’, a 96-year-old organization conducted Swarashree, wherein the best singing talents were showcased.
    The event began with Dr. Rajan, the host from Maharashtra Mandal, introducing the judges to the audience. The judges panel comprised of Mrs. Prawara Sundeep, a post graduate in music, a composer and singer, Mr. Omar Sangoram, an accomplished singer, composer and finalist of Zee ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ with 20 years of musical experience and Mr. Sundeep Limaye, a well versed percussionist and tabla player. Bhavesh Kr Mintri, the Director of LDC, wholeheartedly welcomed the judges, and set off the proceedings for the event.

    Registration for the event was done through an online portal inviting participants between the ages of 18 to 25 to enroll in the competition. Participants came from a variety of colleges and were very enthusiastic about participating in the event. They sang a wide variety of songs consisting of both Hindi and English. Some of the songs included the popular ‘Chunar’ from ABCD 2, ‘Silsil’ and ‘Holy Grail’ by Justin Timberlake. The judges were mesmerized by the beautiful singing and also tested the knowledge of the participants on various musical notes.

    The participants sang to the best of their capabilities. The singing was unparalleled and the songs covered by the participants gave it a completely new dimension. The winners selected for the next round were Kamal Drolia, Sheena Ambarin, Sweethaa P.S, Jharna Ashwani, Sushma Vijay, Tejaswini B, and Soundarya J. The winners have been provided with a platform to showcase their talents and have been assigned experts in the field to guide them. They were presented with medals and were congratulated on making it to the next round. The event was concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Bhavesh, thanking the judges and The Maharashtra Mandal for choosing SJCC to conduct the auditions. Mrs. Shivakami Rajan, the teacher in charge of the event played a huge role in the success of the whole program.

    All in all, the event was a great success with the able assistance of LDC and the Student Council. “It was a great privilege for us to have the Maharashtra Mandal of Bengaluru in our college. We thank them for choosing us as one of the hosts for Swarashree auditions. On behalf of LDC, I would also like to thank the college management and the Student Council, especially our President, Utkarsh for trusting us with this event, as it has only motivated us to work with even more diligence and sincerity on our future projects.”, said the LDC Director.

    “It has always been a pleasure to host events that hone the talent of the students in our college. This event was definitely one of them! It was flawlessly organized and conducted with great response.”, said Utkarsh Choraria, the college president.

    The organizers of the event included Mrs. Manikajay Pathwardhan, Mrs. Athi Ranade, Mrs. Ruchita Dawande and Dr. Rajan. Dr. Rajan was very impressed with the final result, “The event was extremely well organized. The smooth running of the competition was good to see. Almost seventy percent of the participants were selected for the next round, much to our delight. We hope to conduct events in St. Josephs College of Commerce in the future.”
