The
Leadership Development Cell (LDC) in association with the Student Council of
St. Joseph’s College of Commerce on 13th August, 2016, hosted ‘SWARASHREE- Singing Star of Bangalore’
auditions, organized by ‘Maharashtra Mandal’, Bangalore. Music, according to
Plato the Greek philosopher is a fine art meant for the realization of the
soul. Keeping with this spirit ‘Maharashtra Mandal’, a 96-year-old organization
conducted Swarashree, wherein the best singing talents were showcased.
The event began with Dr. Rajan, the host
from Maharashtra Mandal, introducing the judges to the audience. The judges
panel comprised of Mrs. Prawara Sundeep, a post graduate in music, a composer
and singer, Mr. Omar Sangoram, an accomplished singer, composer and finalist of
Zee ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ with 20 years of musical experience and Mr. Sundeep
Limaye, a well versed percussionist and tabla player. Bhavesh Kr Mintri, the
Director of LDC, wholeheartedly welcomed the judges, and set off the
proceedings for the event.
Registration for the event was done through
an online portal inviting participants between the ages of 18 to 25 to enroll
in the competition. Participants came from a variety of colleges and were very
enthusiastic about participating in the event. They sang a wide variety of
songs consisting of both Hindi and English. Some of the songs included the
popular ‘Chunar’ from ABCD 2, ‘Silsil’ and ‘Holy Grail’ by Justin Timberlake.
The judges were mesmerized by the beautiful singing and also tested the
knowledge of the participants on various musical notes.
The participants sang to the best of their
capabilities. The singing was unparalleled and the songs covered by the
participants gave it a completely new dimension. The winners selected for the
next round were Kamal Drolia, Sheena Ambarin, Sweethaa P.S, Jharna Ashwani,
Sushma Vijay, Tejaswini B, and Soundarya J. The winners have been provided with
a platform to showcase their talents and have been assigned experts in the
field to guide them. They were presented with medals and were congratulated on
making it to the next round. The event was concluded with a vote of thanks
presented by Bhavesh, thanking the judges and The Maharashtra Mandal for
choosing SJCC to conduct the auditions. Mrs. Shivakami Rajan, the teacher in
charge of the event played a huge role in the success of the whole program.
All in all, the event was a great success
