ILLEGAL WILDLIFE
TRADE RUNNING ON SNAPDEAL, QUIKR, OLX, EBAY AND AMAZON SAYS GOVERNMENT
The Government today
said that, the trade of rare animals and their body parts is prevalent through
famous websites such as Quikr, OLX, Amazon and Youtube!
The Environment
Minister, Mr. Anil Madhan Dave stated that the online smuggling of these rare
animals and their parts are being monitored by the state and cental government
as part of cyber crime. He also furnished a list of 106 such websites which
were collected by the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau. Mr. Anil also stated at
the Rajya Sabha “Several websites are seen advertising sale of rare animals and
their parts”.
Several steps are being taken to avoid
such illegal practices which include utilizing services of cyber crime to carry
out time to time cyber patrolling to detect offers on such websites. If any
such offer is found, details are acquired of the suspect and information is
passed on to the concerned authority to take necessary legal action.
A meeting of representatives from
online websites was held to discuss issues based on online wildlife trade, to
sensitize them and discuss ways in which the representatives could assist the
Wildlife Crime Control Bureau in case of such findings. Training and sensitization programs are being
conducted so that the issue of illegal online wildlife trade is highlighted and
the officials that are involved in such enforcements are well aware of it.
