Game of Words: View vs Counter View 2.17

ADDICTION
Addiction is a complex condition, a brain disease that is manifested by compulsive substance use despite harmful consequence.

VIEW:
I find no hard in those who addicted to various things. Addiction is a destructive however common part of life. There are many people who view addiction as a moral failing, something that only bad people suffer from. They are stuck in a world where addiction is only a problem for homeless people. But times have changed and this is not the truth anymore. Many of the people of our society still want addicts of any sort to be put behind bars because they’ve broken the law and that’s where they belong. But in Recent times nothing has remained the same. Sober living homes have generated controversy for years. Sober living homes disturb the neighbourhood and peace of the vicinity, while few others have no problem coming right out and saying that they don’t want “those people” living near them- Barthwell & Brown, 2009. People who of sober living homes will tell you that these residences are absolutely vital to an addict’s recovery- Barthwell & Brown, 2009. Morality or strength of character has nothing to do with addiction. It is not a test of willpower. Addiction professionals continuously get caught up in the debate about whether addiction is a “disease” or a mental illness, whether drug dependence and addiction mean the same thing and many other nuanced aspects of our self-destructive behaviour.

COUNTERVIEW:
Addiction never gives us any warning signs. One can never know whether or not he or she is addicted to something. The most common addictions we see now days are to do with smoking, drugs, and alcohol. Although this could extend to a sexual plain as well. Taking only the smoking, drugs and alcohol into consideration, there always exists an unhealthy side effect. All of these substances deteriorate parts of our organs. Getting addicted to these may mean, the harm increased 10 fold. Addiction, as the word suggests, leaves one dependent on something. This is not limited to just substances, it could refer to something as recreational as gaming as well. This leads to a lot of waste of time, and lower the efficiency of an individual. An addiction may also redirect the focus of a person from an import task. He/she may take multiple breaks from work and let a smoking habit get the better of them. This is not uncommon.
Addiction is also termed as the dependency. Meaning it may hook on the person and never let go. As we know, it is best not to be wholly dependent on someone or something. It may hinder our potential to grow. Once addicted, an addiction is very hard to escape and leave behind. It always draws you back. It is extremely hard to break an addiction.
